A Creep Show and The Creepshow

Nathan Baesel
A Creep Show
First off, that unmasked hero above, in a shot I stole from his MySpace page, is is one Nathan Baesel, star of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. If you live in Toronto, you can see more of him tonight (Thursday), 9:30pm, Bloor Cinema, when Rue Morgue hosts an advanced screening the film for January’s CineMacabre movie night. If you missed it when it played here as part of the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, it got a huge response and won the Audience Choice Award. Rightfully so, as the film is very clever, entertaining and original (not something that’s easy to do in the slasher genre these days). I introduced the film for After Dark and hung out with director Scott Glosserman a bit. He’s a helluva guy — likes beer, hates shaving, loves Rue Morgue. More info on the screening here. The Creepshow
The Creepshow
In other news, if you’ve been keeping up with The Creepshow — the merry band of psychos that played RM‘s Festival of Fear party this year — you know that singer Jen (Hellcat) is taking temporary leave from the band, as her and main squeeze Hooch from The Matadors are having a baby. Jen’s sis Sarah will be the one crooning from the side of a stand-up bass in the meantime. The details are posted on the band’s MySpace page. Before the group hits the road for Europe, Sarah will be playing her first Creepshow, er, show on January 20th. The catch is that the location is secret, so keep your stink eyes on that MySpace page for more info (hopefully!). And while you’re there, check out their killer cover of “Halloween.”
