OK, Now a Post Not About Zombies
Well… sort of. Here’s a YouTube vid of The Creepshow on Breakfast Television in Edmonton, and as you can see, after playing a gig in Calgary and not sleeping, the band, particularly Sickboy (wearing a Ghoulish Gary T-shirt!), look a bit like the undead. Ginty, as always, is all smiles, but, man, they must’ve been tired.
When I lived in E-ville, I used to do the occasional movie-related thing on that show, and they want you there before sun-up. It’s bru-tal. Not to mention having the eternally bubbly host in your face asking vapid questions. This obviously wasn’t her scene, but she didn’t even know the proper name of the club they were playing (it’s called New City, not “City”) — IN HER OWN CITY!
But I digress…
Anyhow, the band has a new video for “The Garden,” and if you want to give the Creeps a boost, go here and request it on MuchMusic.
And for funsies, here’s the vid for “Zombies Ate Her Brain.”
If you follow all this Creepshow stuff, you probably know that original singer Hellcat went on hiatus while she had a baby, and her sister, Sarah Sin, took over, and now Sarah will be the permanent singer for The Creepshow (Hellcat has started another band, Hellcat and the Prowl). If you want to hear another side of Sarah, however, check out the acoustic tracks on her MySpace page, here. Great pipes, haunting tunes.

This band is total garbage now… I mean MAYBE when they had their original singer they had something but now. this is a fuckng commercial. I hate what this band stands for and i cant believe that rue morgue is giving them such a giant push. You should be ashamed of your selves really. Total fucking posers.
I love how you jumped on this band and turned your back on the matadors (actual musicians)
I can even watch them with the sister fronting. shes a dead ringer for Joan Benet Ramsey for one thing and for another: you can tell this music isnt coming from HER heart at ALL. its a giant pose. Cha Ching ching ching ring it up HMV.
This band has ‘ D-Tox’ all over it… Dont get any on ya.
Well, ya can’t please all the people all of the time…
It’s interesting, John, that you’re obsessing on the singer being the problem with the band. More interesting that you write an awful lot like Matadors singer Hooch does on his MySpace page. Guess you guys are psychically connected!
For the record, this isn’t Rue Morgue giving the band a push. I happen to really dig The Creepshow and wanted to write about ‘em. I also happen to really dig The Matadors. If I would’ve come across a vid of them playing in my home town, I would’ve posted that too.
the thing i think is really interesting is this dude is going off on how they’re commercial now…. they only have one album out so theyre playing the same songs they did with jen, and sarah has a less bubblegum voice than jen. i dont think this guy has any reason to say they’ve sold out. if a band getting popular due to hard work and touring makes you dislike them… i guess you should concern yourself with finding a new band no ones heard of to namedrop. my suggestion is you pick a band that sounds fucking terrible so they never get fans so you dont have to regard them as sellouts
I find it hilarious, especially within an incestuous scene such as “rockabilly” or “horrobilly” or what ever the fuck, how there is so much resentment for a band that is clearly making waves. Other than working hard and touring, maybe it’s the fact that The Creepshow have a great attitude and are easy to work with that have gotten them this far. A lot people who listen to The Creepshow listen to The Matadors. If I were you, I’d be happy that either band is getting recognized. It’s only going to draw in new fans and perhaps they’ll pick up a Matadors record too. It’s also great to see local talent rise above the crust, no?
We’ve supported both bands. We’ve had The Matadors on Rue Morgue Radio, play our Festival of Fear (amazing show), interviewed them in the mag and reviewed their records.
We haven’t turned our backs on anyone. I liked the Creepshow with Jen, and I like the Creepshow with Sarah. And we’ll continue to cover The Creepshow whether anyone likes it or not.
is all this fighting even worth the time?. ive heard of the matadors. i dont know much about creepshow, but the stupid name calling and fighting over band that you arent in and dont even know the people that are in the band is stupid.. lets get on to more important things..
SEACREST OUT!!!
Music is the new religion and opiate of the masses. It’s no wonder people fight over it like it’s some “holy war”, but it is pretty sad. And you think the fans are bad? Please.. the band members are worse. We follow suit like sheep, instead of realizing that the bigotry of others should simply be shunned altogether. Do you really care what your favorite band’s ideals are, and would you take them as your own simply because you like the music? That’s stupid.
i will just have the coffee thanks…
Sorry, but I just don’t understand the whole “Creepshow” fankids… I don’t feel like the Creepshow bring much to the table. I do think they were at least somewhat more “honest” with Hellcat singing, but I really wasn’t even much of a fan then.
The Matadors, on the other hand… WOW. Gritty, dirty, raucous… and Hooch has a voice that can make a wolverine purr.
Balls-out satanic horrorbilly > candy-coated commercialbilly
ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT.
(oh and PS… Im not Hooch, I am a 27 year old former US Marine from North Carolina.)
