They Came From Within

A giant tapeworm on display at the Meguro Parasitological Museum.

Not every fish should be sushi is the lesson learned at Japan’s Meguro Parasitological Museum, as you can see if you click on the picture above, which depicts a massive, massive tapeworm, removed from a man who acquired it by eating raw trout. Our friend Leah recently went to Japan and took a tour of this free museum, and sent this scan of a page from a pamphlet. She also sent a link to a virtual tour of the website, here. Warning, whoever designed the site is, well, not much of a designer. But although you have to click on the tiny sub-postage stamp-sized images to get the tour, the hilarious “Engrish” captions make it all worthwhile (as do the gross parasites, obviously).

My favourite: “There are so many lovers to take a pecture in front of the worm for their memory.”

Sadly, the fecal-phallic parasites from Shivers don’t seem to be covered.

(Thanks, Leah!)
