Speaking of Risen…
Seeing as it’s Easter Monday, I thought this item would be appropriate. A little while ago the Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa (the one co-owned by Lee Demarbre) did a screening of the original Night of the Living Dead and a Christian group decided to harass the patrons lined up to see it, which, of course, is the kind of attention for the film and the theatre that money can’t buy.
The group has a blog, at which it posted this account of the evening. Obviously not having seen the movie or being the slightest bit aware of its importance to film history for its groundbreaking, progressive socio-political metaphors, they dismiss it as: “Murder, gore, bloodshed and cannibalism only begins to describe the kind of ‘entertainment’ that was being offered.” Classic ignorance.
The best part of this is the comments section, in which the Mayfair fires back, overly angry at first before realizing the marketing potential. It’s pretty entertaining stuff.
I submitted a comment reminding the group that Jesus is the original zombie, but they didn’t approve it. Guess the moderator just didn’t have the, ahem, guts.

Guess it goes to show most people have no lives what so ever. Don’t those people have candy wrappers to clean up after their bastard children celebrated a holiday by completly missing the point????? I swear there is nothing more irritating and ignorant the Christians picketing. They never check the facks. They never know what they are talking about. They just assume that they are 100% right, 100% of the time. If they don’t aggree with something… It’s automaticly blasphemy. NOTLD is a fucking classic!!! If that movie came out today, the strongest rating it could possibly get is PG-13. This is almost as ignorant as them picketing Gone With The Wind because they know the word “Damn” is mentioned, or protesting E.T. because they “Know For A Fact” that we are the only life in the universe. All I got to say is Fuck you and the cross you nailed yourself to and rode in on!!!
That there’s what you call you’re typical christian. If they don’t approve its sinning and yet isn’t judging a sin? Hhmmmm looks like were all going to hell and christians are coming with us , damn you just can’t get away from them.
This is hilarious. Clearly they have never been trapped in a farm house with zombies outside. They should watch this film if the want to survive Armageddon.
Assclowns… I thought that, as a species, we had evolved past this kinda thing. Worse yet, I thought this kind of torch-bearing mob was strictly a thing of the “Deep South”.
