Sneak Peek At Big-Screen Adaptation of Hobo with a Shotgun

on September 3, 2010 | 2 Comments

A new teaser trailer has been released for the feature-length film version of Hobo with a Shotgun, the amazing little Canadian-film-that-could from Nova Scotian writer/director Jason Eisener. The journey began more than three years ago, when a fake trailer for the hypothetical movie was entered into a contest at the annual SXSW (South by Southwest) Film Festival in Austin, Texas and won a spot amongst other fake trailers (such as Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women of the SS) to screen before Robert Rodriguez’s and Quentin Tarantino’s throwback exploitation double-bill Grindhouse. Rodriguez’s own Machete has also been adapted into a feature and opens today in theatres across North America.

The fugazi previews earned nearly as much attention as the two actual features, Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof, and despite being considered a box office flop (according to number-crunchin’ website boxofficemojo.com, the films only mustered $25 million in ducats worldwide on a decidedly un-grindhouse production budget of $67 million) Grindhouse has spawned these two spin-off features, and new talk of Hostel director Eli Roth adapting his faux clip, Thanksgiving, similarly.

No release date has been announced for Hobo but for now, you can chew on this vibrant trailer. Though Eisener seems to have eschewed the lo-fi charm of the original trailer (see here) Rutger Hauer seems like an amazing choice for the lead role, and an ugly amount of gritty splatter seems definitely set to soil the streets.
