The Rondo Awards
Four the third year in a row, Rue Morgue is up for some nods in the Rondo Awards best of 2006 list. Nominated in four categories this year for best magazine, best article (Issue 57 - Apocolyspe ‘76 by John W. Bowen, Tom Murray, Jovanka Vuckovic and Rodrigo GudiƱo from our Omen retrospective), best horror convention for Festival of Fear, and best magazine cover award for issue 62, our loving tribute to Billy Van and his Hilarious House of Frightenstein Canadian cable TV show.
The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards were created by David Colton and Kerry Gammill in 2002.
The award is named after the naturally disfigured spookshow actor Rondo Hatton who’s most notable appearence may be as “The Creeper” in Universal’s 1946 film House of Horror.
The Hatton Awards recognizes excellence in unique catagories such Best Restoration, Best Fan Event (we featured Blobfest in the Travelogue of Terror last year), Best Model or Collectible, Best Classic, and Classic Most In Need of Release.
On a side note, the book nominations are all worthy but I think Basil Gogos will run away with the award for his long-overdue coffee table book. Although, I was happy to see the beautifully painted children’s story FRANKENSTEIN MAKES A SANDWICH, written and illustrated by Adam Rex(http://www.adamrex.com/) get a nod in the best book selections.
In the years past Rue Morgue has been second runner up in the magazine and best cover awards (Clive Barker’s illustrated cover) with honourable mentions in both categories as well as for best article. It’s great to be recognized by the body of classic era monster kids behind the awards and other associated publications, so I encourage you to check out the nominations and vote for your favourites!
