Rue Morgue - Abbatoir

Righteous Roth

Eli Roth takes a lot of flak from the horror faithful, but say what you will, the guy has balls, and here’s the proof. This video, which was posted by the fine cineastes at Popcorn & Sticky Floors, is a clip from an interview the guy did with Fox News around the time the Hostel DVD came out. You can see he’s nervous (rightfully so, as he’s a horror filmmaker walking into the Conservative lion’s den) but he does a helluva job redirecting the Right-Wing blame machine at Bush, Cheney and Renfield, er, Rumsfeld, despite the interviewer’s efforts to make him a scapegoat. He even gets some additional digs in at the White House with, “The horrible, horrible aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, where our government did nothing to help anybody… .” Zing! Granted, the interviewer’s a total moron, trying desperately to link Psycho to the Kennedy administration, but I think Roth comes off as a well-spoken representative of the horror community. There are few things that illustrate humanity’s decline as depressingly as Fox News, so more power to anyone who stands up to those douchebags.
Also, notice the title under the monitor: “$cary Profits!” How lame can you get?

Roth is definitely not a great communicator, and his BTK killer comment felt tacked on, but he did gets some nice digs in. I have a new found respect for this giant tool!

Man, Roth is an idiot. Everything he said was cliche and obvious. It was a poor debate all around.
