Rue Morgue - Abbatoir

Pompadour and Circumstance: A Farewell to Bretts

img_0335-edit.jpg

Designer Brett Bakker, who has been an integral part of the Rue Morgue team for over two-and-a-half years has escaped- er, moved on, from the RM brood. He’s moved right out of Toronto, in fact, to take a job with the city of Kitchener as a designer. So if you’re there, expect to see walk-sign figures with devil horns, blood-spattered transit guides and (fingers crossed) a Crawling Eye mural on City Hall. He also gets to be closer to hometown of Tavistock and his lovely lass Megan.

The Rue Morgue family will miss his amazing design skills, hard work, awesome sense of humour, great taste in tunes, considerable gastric abilities (I once watched him eat an entire bag of no-name cheezies for lunch) and occasional pompadour. Hell, we’ll even miss his preternatural ability to destroy office furniture (three chairs and a bench at last count). Not to mention, he’s a helluva fun guy to go drinkin’ with, as you can see by the group pic taken at the Bovine earlier this year.

Hopefully you’ll see his name in upcoming issues of Rue Morgue in the Audio Drome section, reviewing psychobilly albums, and watch for his own website in the near future: brettbakker.com.

So long, Brettly, and thanks for all the good times and job well done.

(p.s. Brett has requested that you hum Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” while looking at these pictures.)

*A big thanks to Nicole for providing the pics

“Bad” Brettley will be missed. He was my partner in slime for over two years, and I wish him best of luck at his new design digs in Kitchener, Ontario. Many great times were had and I’m happy to hear he’s still going to contribute to the AudioDrome.

I’m looking forward to his new website and seeing some of his other talents, namely his pin-stipping on cars, tool kits, telephones, washing machines, blue boxes and various other objects. Take care Brett and don’t be a stranger!

Good luck with your new endeavors, buddy! I’ll be sure to keep the white trash contingent well represented at all the RM events. Take care, brother.
