Well my pal in the packed van is 98% sure he cannot go at all now, so it's looking like I will be able to stick around for the entire show and ride back with that group. Woohoo!
'Course, missing that wedding is going to put me on a few people's shitlist...but I think the happy couple will be understanding. They know that horror will always reign over romance in my book.
I'm in love with the horror genre. 'Til Death Do Us Part!
See you guys soon.

I'm sure they will understand about the wedding. That's cool that you can go for the entire weekend.

Kimbo is going to destroy Shamrock, but that's beside the point.
Hope everyone has fun. I was planning on attending, but my budget didn't agree with me this year. Take lots of pictures!

Another great Wasteland in the can. It was great meeting a few new board members, like zornow13 and st3b, as well as seeing KISS Fan, Kreepylady, El Juan, & Goon again. I'm forgetting someone I know it. Sorry.
Anyways, great (and surprisingly not too busy) show. The Friday night was dead, and I was able to get most of my autographs out of the way then. In fact, I had 12 I wanted to get, and I had 11 of them by Saturday at noon. I probably could have finished Friday night, but I realized around 9 or so that I was too drunk to keep meeting them.
The only downside was that once I decided that I wasn't going to buy any bootlegs or T-shirts, there wasn't a lot of shopping to be done.
I'm sure more of you Toronto folk are gonna make the trek down in April though. The guest list includes 7 cast and 1 crew from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so you can finish off all those Tobe Hooper-signed posters in one swoop! And there's rumour of an even bigger event taking place in April too. I say nothing, but I cross my fingers!
Photos to come.

Is this convention as well known and attended as, say the FOF or the Fangoria cons (I don;t know any of the other bigger ones if there are any!)......
It almost sounds like this one kicks serious ass and is at par with the best of em!
And Mr. Monster, thanks Bro! That phone call and the info made my fucking month! You rule! Piece!

It is a well known convention just for the fact that it has been going on since 2000. This show brings in about 2,000 to 2,500 people per show. I am not sure how that compares to the other conventions. The Fango shows take place in much larger markets so it is hard to compare it with them. I can tell you that it was far more crowded than the HorrorHound Pittsburgh show.

This show is miniscule compared to the FoF. It's just a completely different entity.

I only saw two movies all weekend but still had a great time. Friday night was very strange because it wasn't that crowded and most everyone went in early. I only met four of the guests on Friday because I was busy talking to everyone. I ate dinner with Barry and Alex and Kreepylady joined us later, and went to the Brett Halsey and John Saxon Q&A afterwards. That hour went by quick. They could've spent the entire night talking to them. Since I started drinking around 3:30 I had trouble staying awake during The Kingdom of Spiders. I crashed out early that night.
Saturday was a great day. They screened The Brain that wouldn't die. After that they had a Q&A with Lamberto Bava and Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni. The Joe Knetter reading was fun as always. I did four shots of Captain Morgan's Rum. Then the Grindhouse talk with 42nd Street Pete, David Friedman, David Hewitt, and Jeff Lieberman. The rest of the night was pretty much a big party in the hotel lobby and outside. The police tried to keep the alcohol inside but that only lasted for part of Friday night then they gave up.
I was really looking forward to Black Devil Doll but they took a shit on everyone by not showing up. Ken offered Sean's phone number to anyone who was pissed so you could call him up and ask him why he no showed. They even gave him two time slots to show the film. This isn't a good way to do business. If you know your film isn't going to be ready in time then call up the promoter and tell him so he can schedule a movie for those time slots. That way you don't burn bridges and piss off the fans. Now I have no interest in ever seeing that movie. From what I've heard they will have trouble getting anyone to see it.
It was nice seeing everyone again and meeting a lot of new people. The Spring show looks to be really good but I don’t see them doing the Zombi 2 reunion like what Ken was talking about. They might bring in a few people but the cost to fly everyone in from Europe would be way too much. Ian McCulloch is a possibility since he’s talked about him before. Christina Lindberg and Fred Williamson are look to be locked in for the fall show.

LOL. I drank some of Mr. Monster's beer because he couldn't take it home with him. I tried to give more away so I wouldn't have to bring that much back home. Next time I will just stick to one case.

I swear, I'm too paranoid about border crossing. It didn't help that the Americans searched our car on the way into the country. My exact conversation on the way back to Canada:
Guard: Hello
Me: Hi
G: Were you in the US at least 48 hours?
Me: Umm, yeah, 49 to be exact.
G: You buy anything?
Me: Yeah, about $200 worth of souvenirs, and then we spent $75 at the duty free shop.
G: Alright
He didn't even get out of his chair! But just watch, the next time I come back with a trunkload of roughies, booze & smokes, and I'll get hauled in and strip-searched.

Lol , as long as you are not a small business looking to sell some wares, or a mildly controversial metal band, you can cross back into Canada no problem, especially if you are a citizen.
I've never been more comfortable in front a form of authority than when in front of the Canadian border guards, god bless them!
Bonus: the French Canadian ones, female, even give you a smile.

Another great show! So glad I went.
The trip started out scary because we almost crashed a few times. My pal had worked like an 11-hr shift or so, then he worked 4-5 hrs at another job, showered and picked me up for the long drive. He kept falling asleep and was swerving. So we stopped at just about every oasis/rest stop and he slept for almost an hour at one of them. 2 large iced coffees, a Monster and a 5hr energy thingy put him to sleep! Took us 8 hours to drive there!
I spent a lot on Friday...mostly small buys of cool things like the soap! Mara (spelling?) is getting really good at detailing her crazy soaps...I grabbed Frankenstein, a bloody guillotine blade, Creature from the Black Lagoon head, a severed foot with bloody axe on wooden floor, glow-in-the-dark gargoyle, tombstone, and a very detailed/multi-colored Nosferatu that smells like dirt! All soap! Amazing.
It was fun seeing Kiss Fan again and getting to hang out with Mr. Monster and Hellfire a bit more this time. (Didn't know you guys were leaving so soon! Sorry I didn't get to say goodbye)
Of course ZORNOW rocked as usual and YAY I finally got his ROTLD print! Woohoo!
(P.S. we stopped at Putrid's house on the way home and it was a great way to end the trip. Talk about exploitation/gore art/VHS heaven explosion! He handed us a collage print he'd made of Tombs of the Blind Dead. Pretty sweet)
It was cool to meet the legendary David Friedman, who signed a few neat prints of promos for COLOR ME BLOOD RED and BLOOD FEAST. Poor guy is really getting up there in age. He is hard of hearing and almost blind at this point. His signature was so tiny that it's just a black spot! Crazy. I'm just glad he was feeling up to coming out and reminiscing with his old friends about the crazy days.
I'm pretty impressed that Tim Lucas was there. If only I could afford his labor of love book about Bava. What an accomplishment! It looks beautiful.
I got a Leatherface Living Dead Doll, which was apparently sculpted by my friend John Pinkerton! I'm not into those dolls but this one I had to have.
I actually found a KRULL poster for my aunt! Not a great flick - no - but I've literally been scouring Chicago for a decade looking for one to no avail. Why? It's my aunt's last name! She really wanted it.
Unfortunately, I only took one pic all weekend, of the 42nd street panel. Not sure why.
It did seem slower in attendance this year. I blame the recession.
To answer Ritean's Q ~ I'd say it is not as well-known as the bigger cons, but it does have the least turnover. Once you go - you always come back and have an even better time. CW has the most loyal fans. It is a family reunion. THE most laid-back place ever. Everyone's cool and no one is out to dick you over.
Some jackass kept 'peeling out' and burning rubber in the parking lot while drunk. He left a very thick layer of rubber on the driveway. He was pissed at some guys who pissed on his car. I know who did it but don't know this guy so oh well.
"Brown jacket guy" was the highlight of being the idiot of the con. Blasted beyond belief yet somehow managing to stay upright the whole time and annoying many folks, he was interesting to watch. Everyone wanted to hit him but didn't b/c nobody wants to pick on the poor drunk shmuck...but one guy did put a lit cigarette inside his jacket pocket. He did not notice it so everybody was pouring beer all over him to put out the fire.
All in all, a great time. Aside from giving myself a mild concussion Sat. night and almost going to the hospital, it was a blast! Yargh. (Yes, KissFan, the noggin still hurts!)

There seemed to be a few drunk idiots this time. The brown jacket guy about got into a fight with one of the dealers out side on Saturday night. That dealer would have squashed him. That was early on Saturday night and that guy stuck around drunk the entire night. I missed the burnout because I was in the restroom but when I walked out the lobby was filled with smoke. I heard someone say he pissed on someones car.
You probably should go to the hospital or see a doctor about your head. It sounded like you really got hurt.
I took a bunch of pictures and will post them later.

Here are the Pictures from Friday.
Lamberto Bava
Brett Halsey
John Saxon
David F. Friedman
Some pictures from the John Saxon and Brett Halsey Q&A. The lighting wasn't that good and a lot of the pictures I took didn't turn out.
Friday night with Mr. Monser, Runk, and the guy in the back is Matt.

Marilyn Chambers
Adrienne King
Jeff Lieberman
Allan Kolman Migicovsky. He told me that I looked like Robin Williams. I cracked a few jokes and he told me that I was funnier than Robin Williams and gave me a free 8x10.
Tim Lucas and his wife. I bought the huge Bava book from them.
Lamberto Bava and Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni Q&A.

Here is the last picture I took from Sunday.

Great pics, KF!
Wish I could've made it to the early Bava Q & A...missed it by a 1/2 hour.
I thought the 42nd St. panel was pretty good.
Saxon is looking much better than he did at Flashback. Looks a bit pumped up! Woohoo

Great pics man.. I had another great time. I really enjoy staying at the Holiday Inn much more than over at Super 8 or whatever they call themselves. Anyway had a great time and the EliteXC fights were pretty exciting.
I was glad to talk with KissFan, Monster, Hellfire, and Runk once again throughout the show. The 42nd street talk was great and I watched some hardcore wrestling videos too that were supposed to be presented by Mad Man Pondo. Apparently he disappeared so 42nd Street Pete had to pick out a couple fights. Funny stuff with the announcers going crazy over the barb wire bats and glass tables. As KF noted I was right there for the Joe Knetter reading as well when he screened the new short "Thirsty" with Joe Lynch, Tiffany Shepis, Michael Bailey Smith and a couple other cameos.
I was at the Bava and Catolina Q&A also. I was very disappointed that Shawn and Jonathan Lewis didn't show up with Black Devil Doll.. That was something I was really looking forward to. I guess I'll just have to wait til they release it on DVD in December. Already can't wait til the next show.. Should be a great one..

Great pics Brett!
Wow!!!!!!!!
You really cleaned house! lol
Seeing the 'Shivers' posters in a couple of the pics and DVD you had signed, makes me wonder if they will rerelease this movie. I'd love to get it!
I wonder what Jeff Liberman is up to these days? Is he going to be working on anything? It's been awhile!
I was sorry to hear that Mr. Friedman was not feeling well. That bites. I love that guy.
Brett, I have on order some of those new releases you already got ( 'Thirst', 'Patrick', 'Strange Behaviour', and 'Syngenor')......I hope you get to watching and reviewing those ones, as I know nothing about any of them.
Let us know what you think.
Thanks for posting those pics, and leave me your collection if something ever happens to you! lol

I haven't had time to get my pics up yet and don't know when I will, but here's a quick story:
Went up to meet Betsy Palmer wearing my David Hess "Blow Your Brains Out" shirt from Vagrancy. Our conversation went like this:
BP: What's on your shirt?
Me: That's David Hess (maybe she met him at a con, I was thinking), from Last House on the Left.
BP: Oh, is that some horror thing?
Me: Umm, yeah, actually it's Sean Cunningham's first film.
BP: I heard all of his early films suck.
Me: Well, I like it. But yeah, he's not big on that one.
BP: You're a douchebag.
OK, she didn't call me a douchebag, but it was an odd start. After that though, she was a super nice lady. She asked me if she could sign the entire front page of my Crystal Lake Memories book and I said yes, so she did. When I took the book to Kane Hodder, he opened it, stared at her signature for a moment, then glared over at her, then up at me and said "The whole page?". Funny guy.

$250. It was worth it. Plus it was an added bonus to have everyone sign it for free.

|
He is working on something but he couldn't talk about it.

I think he was feeling fine but he is around 85 now and can't see or hear too well. He was still able to tell a bunch of stories. His autograph was tiny but he didn't charge so that was a bonus.

Let us know what you think.
Thanks for posting those pics, and leave me your collection if something ever happens to you! lol

Synapse had a deal on them. If you buy all five you get them for half price. That was the first place I stopped by. Plus they were giving away Synapse and Impulse chapstick.

I was at a Betsy Palmer Q&A about 5 or 6 years ago when this exchange took place.
Nerdy Horror Guy: Betsy, what did you think of the F13 sequels?
BP: I have never seen them so I can't comment
NHG: Why not? Were you upset that you weren't included?
BP: Well to be honest I really don't like horror movies. They always felt a little trashy to me. In fact it wasn't until recently that I actually saw all of F13.
Now I'm sure that I am not getting the exact quotes right but who trashes horror movies at a horror convention? Since then I haven't been her #1 fan.

Did anyone end up finding out what happened to shawn and the no-show for the screening of 'Black Devil Doll'?
That's odd.
Maybe something unexpected happened at the last minute?
Were people actually calling him about this?

Not sure what happened but if something did happen at the last minute then a phone call saying that they couldn't make it would have been a professional thing to do. Ken promoted this film the last two shows and was promised the premiere for the fall show. He was pissed off about the situation. They could've shown two new movies and given their table to someone else. There is a long waiting list for vendor tables.
I don't know if anyone called him or bothered to get his phone number from Ken.

That sucks that he didn't show. I'm sure there has to be a good reason they didn't show though. They definitely should have had a rep call though.
I'm glad you had fun man! Awesome loot too! That Bava book alone...fuck I'm jealous. Looks like it would have been a blast. I'm planning on saving and going next year. I just got myself tangle up into too much financial shit this time around.

I hear that. Luckily it's possibly the cheapest con in existence, esp. if you get the early passes which are $30 for a 3-day pass. I didn't order mine until a month or less before the show so you have time.
NO stupid VIP packages or any of that shit to rip people off...yay!
The problem that makes it the con you lose the most $$$ at is the fact that the vending room is so AWESOME. Really unique artists and folks that can't make it out west. Oh, and your alchohol habit over the course of the weekend also tends to thin funds.
Hope you make the next one.

I'm going to buy my ticket probably as soon as they are available. Unless they are now, then I'll have to wait until my next paycheck. Hopefully the drinking won't cause too much of a dent in my wallet. I'll bring stuff with me and that will save. I will definitely be at the next one unless something major changes in my life! (finger crossed!)

I didn't have enough money to spend buying bootleg dvd-rs from the fat guy that's there every year. However, I went to the Friday night showing of 'PoultryGeist' in Cleveland. October 3rd. Once again, some wonderful and well thought out questions from the audience to Mr. Kaufman. "Do you like shooting in digital rather than film?" , "What is your favorite Troma movie?"
A group of kids with Misfits-type shirts just stood next to Mr. Kaufman as he signed things after the movie. They couldn't get close enough... didn't say a word, just stood there smiling like cheesmos. I was drunk and laughing, under my breath of course because they could have kicked my ass. One of them chimed in with, "How can I get back at Hollywood to help Troma?" I almost threw up my guts. Sure, kid... Go ahead and do your best. First, if you really want to get back at the major studios... You can give me 6 bucks for some beer.
Call me an elitist, but I'm starting to hate going to events. Or, you can call me your lover and I'll see ya in the sac.

Brett..
Thanks for sharing your pics and experiences.
You have got one nice collection-especially the signed dvds.
I hope someday when you get married-you get your own room for displaying all of the horror stuff.
I say this cause a friend of mine got married and had a 4 bedroom home-he turned the 4th room into a museum of star wars-he also made the room bigger by knocking down another wall.
It was fun to walk thru

This isn't a good way to do business. If you know your film isn't going to be ready in time then call up the promoter and tell him so he can schedule a movie for those time slots. That way you don't burn bridges and piss off the fans. Now I have no interest in ever seeing that movie. From what I've heard they will have trouble getting anyone to see it.

Relax man, shit happens, I did not go out of my way to fuck the fans over. Trust me. I certainly did not SHIT on any of you intentionally.
Why would I intentionally fuck over my audience? Why would I waste my money on a dealer table and plane ticket? What would I fucking gain from any of this?
So you were looking forward to my film and because of some family/personal issues I had now my film isn't worth it to you? And somehow I will have trouble getting anyone to see it? That is a pretty far stretch. This makes no sense, explain yourself.
I posted a blog about the fuck up on our myspace page. Read it, instead of spinning bullshit on here:

Spinning bullshit? Everything I said above is true. I didn't know you had personal problems and nobody else knew because you didn't tell anyone. You just didn't show up. If you had time to type up a blog on myspace then I would think you could have picked up the phone and made a call. That's just me. Whatever I am done with it.

Yes spinning bullshit, you came on here to toss shit around, without even knowing what the fuck you are talking about. You only know one side of the story, and based on that you decided to throw me under the fucking bus.
Did you read the blog? I thought Wasteland had been notified, fuck. I would not intentionally just fucking blow them off. Makes no gawdamn sense.
Its not the end of the world dude, its a movie, you'll get the chance to see it eventually, relax.
