RM EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OPENS ART SHOW AT FANTASIA

on July 19, 2012 | 1 Comment

Imagine an alternative universe of Canadian horror movies that didn’t, couldn’t and maybe even shouldn’t get made… but we’d still love to see. RM’s Dave Alexander has brought together some of Canada’s most celebrated genre filmmakers, illustrators and designers to create If They Came From Within – a gallery of poster art for Maple Syrup genre films that don’t exist.

Join him for the gala premiere this Friday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at La Cinémathèque Québécoise, as part of Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival (July 20 – 29), to see what happens when the imaginations behind such films as Hobo With a Shotgun, My Bloody Valentine, Father’s Day, Pontypool, Splice and Smash Cut intersect with acclaimed genre artists such as James White, Jason Edmiston, Ghoulish Gary Pullin, Justin Erickson, Vince Marcone, and more!

Horror Panels Announced for the March ComiCON!

on March 5, 2012 | 1 Comment

Next weekend, March 10/11, the Toronto March ComicCon show happens at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Though smaller (and also less expensive!) than the Fan Expo in August, which features the Festival of Fear, there’s still horror fun to be had.

Here’s a rundown of the stuff I programmed:

Hobos, Shotguns and Grindhouse Insanity: a conversation with Jason Eisener

Saturday, 12p.m, 801B, hosted by the Gore-met.

Sinister Seven: Van Gore filmmaker Keith Hodder

on July 12, 2011 | Leave a comment

Certain members of the Rue Crew are still a-feudin’ over the main attractions of the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse double feature – Bowen and I aren’t allowed to “discuss” Death Proof in polite company anymore – but I think most of us can agree that the fake trailers were pretty damn rad. Thanks to the faux-trailer trend inspired by Grindhouse and projects like Joe Dante’s Trailers from Hell, vintage genre/exploitation trailers are finally getting the love they deserve.

Keith Hodder, Peter Strauss and Jerrad Pulham are the latest heirs to the faux-trailer throne thanks to Van Gore, winner of the Hobo with a Shotgun fake trailer contest. Their film, a gory, over-the-top homage to the violent shockers of the ’70s, was included with last week’s Hobo DVD and Blu-ray release, so it seemed like a good time to chat up Hodder about the fine art of trailer trash.

Episode 017: HIPPO WITH A SHOTGUN

on May 3, 2011 | 22 Comments

On this episode of the podcast, Last Chance Lance and I reveal the winner of the HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN ULTIMATE PRIZE PACK GIVEAWAY EXTRAVAGANZA contest that includes:

A HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN poster signed by Rutger Hauer himself.
A HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN hat.
A Magnet T-shirt.
And a HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN beer cozy.

Of course, as HOBOS and SHOTGUNS go together better than peanut butter and chocolate, we asked the listeners to come up with a fake movie title featuring a unique combination of PERSON and WEAPON. And thanks to the twisted brains of our demented listeners, the results are some of the most exciting movie ideas generated thus far in the 21st Century.

Another Blast of Hobo With a Shotgun

on April 5, 2011 | 1 Comment

Check out this funny anti-piracy clip created by Alliance Films, and featuring the FX work of our pal Lori Legassie, warning about the perils of downloading a bootleg version of Jason Eisener’s exploitation splatterama, Hobo with a Shotgun. Actor Nick Bateman, who plays Ivan in the film (now in theatres), even reprises his role to lay an ice-skated smackdown on a couple of slacker punks.
