Ricky Bates made some serious waves with his surreal and very bloody 2012 feature-directorial debut, EXCISION. For his next outing, SUBURBAN GOTHIC, Bates is going for the funny bone (instead of the jugular). Read on and watch the red-band trailer while you’re at it.
Holy shit! Sorry, but time flies. Seems like just yesterday we were setting up our little booth of horrors and now it’s already coming down after yet another successful Festival of Fear. The last horror panel (Anchor Bay presents Michael Biehn) is just wrapping up and we’re starting to tear down the RM booth . We hoped you had a good, ghastly and grimey time whether you popped by in person or have been following along in cyberspace.
The countdown is on folks. In fact, time is about to run out. Nope, it’s not the end of the world (yet) just the most anticipated event for us horror fans: Festival of Fear. But since the pages of Rue Morgue circulate around the globe (a scream is a scream in any language, right?) we know not everyone can join us this weekend in Toronto at FanExpo. So in the spirit of spreading the terror we’ll be live blogging on site from the Rue Morgue booth. With the likes of Robert Englund, John Waters, Lance Henriksen and Elvira at the expo and off-site gigs like Blood Ceremony (Witches! Occult! Flutes!) and Ghoultown (Hillbillies! Goths! Cowboy hats!) keeping things going after hours there’s no shortage of succulent events to sink our teeth into. So keep checking www.rue-morgue.com for panel recaps, the grim and ghastly finds on the expo floor, party tell-alls…hell, we might even try the Expo’s speed dating.
If you’re around in the flesh swing by the booth and let us know what’s up. We’ll be lurking around.
And if you’re looking for F.o.F. updates send us a tweet @RueMorgue. We’ll do our best to keep you up to date on everything but bathroom wait times.
Finally, for all your F.o.F planning needs get outta here and go here.
Less than three weeks ’til the 2011 Rue Morgue Festival of Fear (August 25 – 28) digs its claws into you and we’re still sweetening an already killer guest list! Today, we’re very pleased to announce that Michael Biehn (Aliens, The Terminator, Planet Terror,The Abyss) and his co-star in the upcoming thriller The Victim, Jennifer Blanc (The Divide), have been added to the all-star horror cavalcade that is this year’s FoF lineup. For those not keeping score at home, here’s a quick recap to get your autograph pen twitchin’…
Tickets for all of this year’s Festival of Fear off-site events – including Near Dark with Lance Henriksen, an intimate evening with John Waters, and the Official FoF 2011 Party with Tom Savini and Blood Ceremony – are now on sale here. Friday night’s Shocktail Party with Ghoultown is absolutely FREE!
With the 2011 Festival of Fear now only six weeks away, we’ve got two more amazing off-site events (read: legendary horror nights in the making) to announce!
The man William S. Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash” – John Waters – is hosting a one-man “vaudeville” act celebrating his career, influences and fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy and the extremes of the contemporary art world, Saturday August 27 at the Toronto Underground Cinema (186 Spadina Ave.) 7 p.m. $35 door, $30 advance, or a $125 VIP ticket that includes post-performance reception. This joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy into a call-to-arms for Waters lovers everywhere!
Then, don’t miss Night Terrors, our Official 2011 Festival of Fear party, featuring a Midnight Costume Contest hosted by special fx/makeup guru Tom Savini and others, along with the hypnotic sounds of witch rock pioneers (and Hymns From the House of Horror Vol. II donors) Blood Ceremony. Plus! Terror tunes from one-man party Tomb Dragomir, Oz and LaMort. Saturday, August 27 at Revival Event Theatre (783 College St. West) 10 p.m. $15 door/$10 advance.
We’re at it again, gang! We’ve added fan favourite Michael Rooker (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Slither, AMC’s The Walking Dead) and graphic artist/filmmaker Vincent Marcone (My Pet Skeleton, The Lady Paranorma) to the 2011 Festival of Fear line-up! Michael and Vincent are the newest additions to an already awesome roster that includes Guest of Honour Robert Englund, cult filmmaker John Waters, horror hostess with the mostest Elvira, FX pioneer Tom Savini, Hellraiser vet Doug Bradley and many, many more.
The Festival of Fear kicks off in Toronto on August 25 and wraps up on August 28. Join the Rue Crew for four days of shameless debauchery that will include screenings, parties, autograph sessions, Q&As, panels and more. Check out the full line-up on the official Festival of Fear website, and please be sure to “Like” us on Facebook!
Here’s a magic trick that doesn’t involve sawing anyone in half (sorry): We’ve added more guests to the Festival of Fear’s already bursting-at-the-screams lineup! We’re proud to announce that Canadian television producer Mitch Markowitz (The Hilarious House of Frightenstein) and Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman (The Toxic Avenger, Poultrygeist) will also be joining us in August.
Mitch and Uncle Lloyd join a lineup of guests that includes Guest of Honour Robert Englund, legendary purveyor of refinement and good taste John Waters, the unsinkable Elvira, John Astin of TV’s The Addams Family, guru of gore Tom Savini, and Hellraiser heavy Doug Bradley. For the full 2011 lineup, go to the official Festival of Fear website and don’t forget to “Like” us on Facebook!
We’re not done yet! We’re very pleased to reveal that Oscar-winning actor MARTIN LANDAU (Ed Wood, The Twilight Zone, Sleepy Hollow) and genre darling DANIELLE HARRIS (Halloween 4-5, Devil’s Night, Stake Land, Rob Zombie’s Halloween II) will be joining the already stunning line-up for this year’s Festival of Fear (August 25 – 28). And there’s still more announcements to come! Stay tuned…
