It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for horror fans that is!
Celebrating its 21st anniversary, AMC’s FearFest – an annual tradition for many fans of the genre – is back this year and runs from October 23rd through to Halloween night on October 31st. The week long marathon will feature the best in both contemporary and classic horror movies.
The downside? Unlike the usual two-week schedule, FearFest will only run for seven days this year, as AMC will be devoting the prior week to airing the first 99 episodes of “The Walking Dead,” which counts down to the Season 8 premiere (and the show’s 100th episode).
Films you can expect in this year’s lineup include: The Halloween series, A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), Freddy vs. Jason, Friday the 13th Part IX: Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, Child’s Play, Curse of Chucky, Annabelle, Thinner, Dreamcatcher, Jeepers Creepers, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Land of the Dead, House of the Dead 1&2, House on Haunted Hill (1999), Return to House on Haunted Hill, House of Wax (2005), Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Army of Darkness, Van Helsing, Lake Placid, Slither, and the Leprechaun franchise.
And for a killer surprise, AMC will also air Cult of Chucky!
I can’t believe it’s only a week long !!! And I love TWD but don’t want reruns !!! I’d rather have 2-3 weeks of horror movies for Fearfest!!! After all the complaints last year with the reruns of TWD how could you do it again and actually shorten the actual Fearfest movie time ?! I used to love Fearfest now I’ll definitely be watching SYFY for thier 31 days of Halloween!!!
I’m really pissed off about this years Fearfest! I was really looking forward to this just like every year. It’s a good thing I have my horror collection to fall back on. Fearfest is really starting to suck really bad. I’m very disappointed in you AMC!
Unbelievable I have been watching this for years and can not believe there doing this who cares about the walking dead it comes on all the time fear fest should be strictly horror movies there’s plenty of movies out there u can show besides the waking dead very disappointed will not even waste my time with amc this year
Maybe it’s just me, but I liked it better when it was MONSTERFEST. They could’ve had a tribute to the late great George Romero by showing a lot of his films, but no they have to show the Dawn Of The Dead remake. I mean it’s a pretty good remake however, it’s not the original. And what about Tobe Hooper? Another great one we lost to soon. RIP George and Tobe.
I might be the only one who is not mad with Amc for showing a week of Fear Fest. I know for me I was tired of watching the same movies over and over again. I know that the there best years were 96-08 when. That’s when Fearfest was only for a week during that time it was fun to watch. I look at it like this at least their not like USA network who for everything about horror movies, themes, programming. They want even acknowledge shows like USA Up All Night, Commander Usa’s Groovie movies, Saturday Nightmares ( they even had a Halloween movie marathon which they would show the weekend of Halloween) it’s like they never existed to them now that sucks.
Absolutely atrocious idea. Not only is The Walking Dead – or a commercial airing promoting The Walking Dead – on every three minutes on AMC FearFest, but now we have another seven days devoted to it. They need to can that idea and juice up their lineup with good, original horror films. You know, like a channel such as “American Movie Classics” *should* do.
I also looked forward to monsterfest/fearfest every year like clockwork, but AMC dropped the ball since 2011 and they are getting worse every year since (choke artists). I loved all the hammer movies, the Omen, American werewolf in london, Carrie, The beast must die, and all the universal classic horror flicks from 1931-45. I am not going to give in to there shitty line-up this year; I’m not gonna watch AMC anymore except for new episodes of the walking dead and frankly the show is losing it’s luster … Basically, Twd is getting old and predictable. I will watch Turner classic movies for the good classic horror flicks this year … Check there line-up, because they show them usually thurs. and fri. Late night for the whole month of october. I guess the times are changing for the worst and those days of reliving the goodtimes/memories from the past are done, unless u buy the movies yourself. I could do that, but it’s not the same. You know what I mean, don’t you? Maybe AMC will get the gist if enough of us turn them off and make there ratings drop like a stone. AMC stinks!!!!!! Bless all you true horror fans…
Disappointing, they play all the walking dead episodes every Sunday, we are tired of seeing it. Don’t need a entire week of it. How about some good old classic horror movies.
Disappointed. No Stephen King movies except Thinner and Dreamcatcher (not exactly horror in my book) and only ridiculous other things like Child’s Play. I’ve been done with Walking Dead for a while now, ever since things started getting so off the wall with that series. It’s just not interesting anymore.
You are so right! I’ve been a walking dead fan since it began but now I’m losing interest all together, the show is getting boring and yes loosing its kick, I’m tired of it, all year I wait for fear fest, it’s a Halloween celebration all month long for me, so when they cut it short I feel cheated out of my Halloween experience, sci fi is even showing horror flicks, AMC get your shit together and stop feeding us TWD for god sakes, and FTWD is 10x worse!!!!!!!
I emailed Amc like I do every year asking them for their Fear fest schedule. Amc did reply back to me and let me know don’t listen to any leaks about their schedule because it’s all lies and false. They start off this years Fearfest with a Fri the 13th marathon on Fri the 13th. The very next day it’s a Stephen King Marathon. Then they will show Walking Dead until Oct. 23rd. Finally on the 23rd they will show Halloween movies all day. So it’s not a week this year like some blogs have said it’s two weeks. I am looking forward to it this year I just don’t want to see the Walking Dead everyday though. smh
Amc was so much better when it was monster fest…. Fear fest keeps going down hill year after year…
