The director of KILL LIST and HIGH-RISE shot his latest fright film under the radar.

Deadline reports that Ben Wheatley shot IN THE EARTH in secret during the pandemic. Neon has picked up the U.S. rights, and will bring the movie to theaters next year; Joel Fry, Ellora Torchia, Hayley Squires and Reece Shearsmith star. The synopsis: “As the world searches for a cure to a disastrous virus, a scientist and park scout venture deep in the forest for a routine equipment run. Through the night, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness, the forest coming to life around them.”

Wheatley also recently signed to direct THE MEG 2, which could mark his first leap into big-ticket studio filmmaking (unless TOMB RAIDER 2, to which he’s also attached, rolls first). The giant-shark sequel will see original star Jason Statham return, along with the first film’s screenwriters, Jon and Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris.
