Check Out This Month’s Collection of Crowdfunding Projects

Wednesday, September 5, 2018 | Fan Content

The genre is always bubbling over with crowdfunding projects vying to get your attention, and this month is no different. It’s within your power to help make a dream come true, so take a look at these projects and feel free to toss them a bit of coin if you like what you see…

Killer Spirit
Goal: $6,500 USD
Horror films have seen cheerleaders on the sharp end of a knife, perhaps too often. A young group of female filmmakers from LA aim to turn that trope on its head with Killer Spirit, a short horror comedy. Having accidentally killed the star quarterback, cheer captains Claire and Natalia must put their heads together to pull off the perfect c-r-i-m-e!

The Deadly Spawn Toys
Goal: $26,226 CAD
Collectors will be pleased to know that the 1983 horror film The Deadly Spawn is finally getting its own line of figures! From larvae to full-blown aliens, a limited edition set of vinyl toys is available, sculpted by James Groman. Pledge $35 to $400+ and decide which set of creatures you’ll get to bring home.

Surveilled
Goal: $30,000 USD
Riding on the recent wave of smart scary movies, filmmakers James Smith and Caroline Spence aim to make a film that is less gore, and more story. Surveilled follows a horror movie review writer who is obsessed with serial killers (something we know a little about). However, things get too real when they find themselves embroiled in an actual murder case.

They Come From Above
Goal: $3,500 CAD
Toronto filmmaker Jonathan Brito knows that nothing beats old-school practical effects when it comes to genre films. Naturally, his project They Come From Above relies heavily on them. Watch as hapless criminals Ava and Zoe attempt to clean up a murder, while dealing with a horrifying amorphous blob that crawls out of their bathroom sink.

Patron
Goal: £5000
Described as Get Out vs Twin Peaks, Patron draws inspiration from the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, along with surreal oil paintings. When Vickie gets an interview with a prestigious company, she’s taken aback by what the male executives ask of her. But they receive an even greater shock when she reveals just what she’s capable of doing.

Jessica Buck
Jessica is a life-long lover of all things dark and morbid. As the daughter of a homicide detective, you might say she’s got murder in her blood. Or at the very least, a misplaced sense of appropriate dinner-time conversation. Her attention is constantly divided between writing, event production, and the performing arts.
