Fans of the classic Universal monster movies are in mourning today with news of the death of Ricou Browning. A stuntman, underwater cinematographer actor, and screenwriter, Florida-born Browning appeared as the infamous Gill-man in the underwater sequences in 1954’s Creature From the Black Lagoon and its sequels Revenge of the Creature (1955) and The Creature Walks Among Us (1956).

As the last living actor to portray a Universal monster, Browning’s death marks the end of an era for classic horror. He died on February 27 at his home in Southwest Ranches, Florida. Browning was 93.
