After one of the most exciting debuts on the recent international horror scene, the German writer/director has nailed down a solid cast for his follow-up.

Neon has announced that Hunter Schafer (HBO’s EUPHORIA), John Malkovich (pictured), Gemma Chan (ETERNALS), Sofia Boutella (THE MUMMY), Jan Bluthardt, Zita Hanrot and Proschat Madani will star in CUCKOO, Tilman Singer’s second horror film. His debut feature LUZ began as a thesis project for film school before he expanded it to feature length, and it won raves and awards at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Fantasia International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest and others. (See our interview with Singer about LUZ here.) CUCKOO, which begins filming in April 2022, sees Singer reunite with LUZ cinematographer Paul Faltz, composer Simon Waskow and production designer Dario Mendez Acosta.

The website of production company Fiction Park describes CUCKOO as a “mystery-thriller with horror elements set in the shadows of the Alps,” in which “17-year-old American Gretchen is forced to move with her family to a resort town run by Herr König, where things are not what they seem.” We’ll let you know anything more that we find out!
