This little mermaid is no Disney character: She hungers for both love and human flesh in THE LURE, which begins its release this week. See an exclusive clip of her bloody activities below.

The directorial debut of Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczynska, THE LURE was scripted by Robert Bolesto and stars Marta Mazurek (seen in the clip below), Michalina Olszanska, Kinga Preis and Jakub Gierszal. It opens tomorrow in New York City at the IFC Center, with Smoczynska and Mazurek on hand for the opening-night 7:25 show, then in other cities in the coming weeks. The synopsis: “A pair of carnivorous mermaid sisters are drawn ashore in an alternate ’80s Poland to explore the wonders and temptations of life on land. Their tantalizing siren songs and otherworldly aura make them overnight sensations as nightclub singers in the half-glam, half-decrepit fantasy world of Smoczynska’s imagining. In a visceral twist on Hans Christian Andersen’s original ‘Little Mermaid’ tale, one sister falls for a human, and as the bonds of sisterhood are tested, the lines between love and survival get blurred.” See our review of THE LURE here.
