Death still refuses to be denied, as New Line Cinema has revived one of its most popular franchises.

Variety reports that New Line is launching FINAL DESTINATION 6, which will premiere on HBO Max. Jon Watts, who began his career directing the thrillers CLOWN and COP CAR before helming three blockbuster SPIDER-MAN movies, will produce and came up with the treatment for the new entry in the film series that began with the 2000 original (pictured above). Lori Evans Taylor (WICKED WICKED GAMES) and Guy Busick (the new SCREAM) are scripting, with a director yet to be named. Watts’ wife and partner Dianne McGunigle and DESTINATION veterans Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor are also producing.

“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of FINAL DESTINATION from the very beginning,” Watts says in a statement. “So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.” Says Perry, “Jon and Dianne’s passion for the series is only matched by how much fun they are to work with. Sheila and I couldn’t be more excited to have their creative energy driving this latest installment in the FINAL DESTINATION franchise with New Line. With Guy and Lori’s inspired execution of Jon’s original idea, we have a movie that audiences are gonna love.”
