The survival-horror film just wrapped principal photography in Detroit.

Atlas Industries, Hantz Motion Pictures and Spin a Black Yarn sent along word and the first pics about WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING, directed by Sean King O’Grady from a script by Max Booth III (adapting his novella of the same title). The cast is headed by Sierra McCormick (VFW, THE VAST OF NIGHT), Vinessa Shaw (THE HILLS HAVE EYES), Pat Healy (CHEAP THRILLS, COMPLIANCE), Lisette Alexis and John James Cronin, and the film was produced by Bill Stertz, Josh Malerman (BIRD BOX), Ryan Lewis and Peter Block (SAW franchise); Dan Rebert (ITSY BITSY, TRUE BLOOD) created the practical effects. The synopsis: “After Melissa [McCormick] and her family [Shaw, Healy, Cronin] seek shelter from a storm, they become trapped. With no sign of rescue, hours turn to days and Melissa comes to realize that she and her girlfriend Amy [Alexis] might have something to do with the horrors that threaten to tear her family–and the entire world–apart.”

“Max’s script captures the hopelessness of 2020 in a way that is both cathartic and–dare I say–really fun,” O’Grady says. “Without directly addressing the nightmare we are currently living through, Max created a hellish allegory that still manages to capture the collective trauma we’re all experiencing. I had the magical experience of reading it this summer, knowing I had to make it, then actually getting to do it. I cannot believe the amazing group of cast, crew, and producers I swindled into going on this crazy adventure with me.” The movie was shot almost entirely on Atlas’ Detroit soundstage over the past couple of months, with rigorous safety protocols employed to keep the cast and crew safe and healthy during the production. Stay tuned for updates!
