Help These Creators End The Year On A High Note

Wednesday, December 9, 2020 | Crowdfunding

OK, there’s no denying that this year has been a perpetual dumpster fire for pretty much everyone. But now that it’s the season of giving, you have one last chance to make 2020 better for an indie horror creator who just wants to get their project made. Check out the listings below and spread the word or contribute to their campaigns, if you can.

Blood Pledge
$26,062 CAD

Plenty of film premises contain the buzzwords “sorority girls” or “cabin in the woods,” but Blood Pledge is one that takes things in a slightly different direction. Expecting a weekend of hazing, sorority-hopefuls arrive at an isolated cabin, but get more than they bargained for when an alien parasite starts turning them into bloodthirsty creatures. Helmed by established writers Judy Padget (aka Judy Teel), and Dan Gordon, the project has also scored notable editor Gib Jaffe (They Live).

Mark Spears Monsters Retro Trading Cards
$2,685 CAD

Do you remember trading cards of the ’70s and ’80s? Artist Mark Spears does, and he’s bringing them back for today’s monster kids (and grown ups). Putting his 20 years of experience in the horror and comics world to use, he has painstakingly created 72 works of art including The Bride of Frankenstein, Count Dracula, The Mummy, Werewolf, The Phantom and more. Each pack will contain 7 hand-drawn cards, a sticker, and of course a stick of bubble gum. A pledge of $15 USD gets you 3 full packs, or pitch in a little more to collect them all!

Horror(ble) Pins
$639 CAD

From The Happy Studio’s Horrifyingly Cute series that previously showcased on Instagram comes the Horror(ble) Pins collection. Putting a childlike twist on kings of horror Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, these pins are sweet, scary, and ready to adorn your favourite denim jacket. For just $10 USD you can get either Jason or Michael, or both for $18.

The Man in the Hat
$1,329 CAD

After losing their mother suddenly and unexpectedly, brothers Oliver and Hunter are left to grapple with the circumstances surrounding her death. Convinced it wasn’t an accident, Oliver journeys down the rabbit hole, looking for the truth. The only thing he knows for sure is that a mysterious man has something to do with it. Not just a scary movie, The Man in the Hat looks seriously at grief, fear of death, and loss.

Grave Robbers: Welcome to Hell Hole
$6,516 CAD

What happens when you mix booze, the paranormal, and classic westerns? You get
Grave Robbers, a fully-coloured, 36 page graphic novel. The first chapter, Welcome to Hell Hole follows three bounty hunters with supernatural abilities as they trail a satanic killer to a small mining town. As one might expect; guts and gore abound. Grab a copy for yourself, or pledge a little more to own the original artwork.

Jessica Buck
Jessica is a life-long lover of all things dark and morbid. As the daughter of a homicide detective, you might say she’s got murder in her blood. Or at the very least, a misplaced sense of appropriate dinner-time conversation. Her attention is constantly divided between writing, event production, and the performing arts.
