JAMES WAN PRODUCED “MORTAL KOMBAT” BEGINS SHOOTING THIS YEAR

Wednesday, May 15, 2019 | News

With the release of MORTAL KOMBAT 11, the brutal fighting game is back in the news once more. This franchise has been running strong since the 90’s and there looks to be no end in sight. With success like that, there are bound to be be films and the franchise did get a couple back in the game’s heyday, but the reboot trend spares no man, or franchise. It look like we may get more MORTAL KOMBAT sooner rather than later thanks to James Wan.

I may one of the few people that really loved the original film and counts it as one of the best game to film adaptations so far (not the best, mind you, so put down your torches and pitchforks). Despite MORTAL KOMBAT being primarily a fighting game, it has a heavy dose of horror and gore and one of the people in the industry that knows how to handle horror is James Wan. He has been a very busy man as of late and he doesn’t look like he’s going to slow down. After backing out of a RESIDENT EVIL reboot, Wan is still dipping his toes into video game movies. According to Entertainment Weekly, Wan is set to produce a new film in the series that will start to shoot later this year.

Simon McQuoid is set to direct and it will be filmed in Adelaide, Australia. McQuoid is a new face in the filmmaking industry and Wan had this to say about the film:

“I’m really happy and excited to be bringing another show back to Australia with Mortal Kombat…Now we get to experience South Australia with its scenic locations and a wealth of artistic talent to work with. It will be perfectly suited for this fantasy-action project.”

There is no word yet if it is a reboot, a remake or a new installment to the films that have already been made but there is one thing that I know for sure…I can’t WAIT to see it. James Wan is filled to the brim with talent and he knows how to do horror and, after AQUAMAN, he knows how to do action and fantasy, so MORTAL KOMBAT seems to be in good hands. Now please, James Wan, go back to RESIDENT EVIL. You could do that film franchise a lot of justice.
