Having relaunched the Laurie Strode character in Blumhouse’s new HALLOWEEN franchise, the actress is taking her first turn behind the camera for the genre company.
Jamie Lee Curtis has signed a three-year first-look deal for her Comet Pictures to produce both film and TV projects for Blumhouse. First out of the gate will be MOTHER NATURE, a climate-change horror feature on which she’ll make her directorial debut, from a script she’s writing with Comet’s head of development Russell Goldman. “I’m 61 and my motto now is: ‘If not now, when, if not me, who?’ ” Curtis says. “I’m excited to have a creative home to explore my own ideas and others. Jason and his team have made me feel welcome. Comet is ready to bring these stories to screen life.”
“Jamie is a force of nature and was a real partner on HALLOWEEN,” says Blumhouse topper Jason Blum. “So it’s both an honor and incredibly apt that she’s making her first feature film as a director with MOTHER NATURE.” Following the hugely successful release of the HALLOWEEN reboot two years ago, Blumhouse and Universal will release the sequels HALLOWEEN KILLS October 16 of this year and HALLOWEEN ends October 15, 2021.
