It has knocked out audiences and critics for the past year or so at festivals, and now ONE CUT OF THE DEAD is set for wider American exposure. We’ve got the news, the poster and the latest trailer…

…but it comes with the proviso that the preview contains spoilers, and you should take our word and those of others that this is a must-see, endlessly clever, beautifully constructed meta-horror/comedy. Shudder and Variance Films are teaming up to bring ONE CUT OF THE DEAD to New York City’s IFC Center and Los Angeles’ Alamo Drafthouse Downtown beginning September 13, with more than 60 special one-night screenings across the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday, September 17, followed by a Shudder premiere later in the year.

Written, directed and edited by Shinichiro Ueda, ONE CUT OF THE DEAD has won the Audience Award and Best Director at Fantastic Fest, Best Film at Fantasia, Best Film at Bifan Fantastic Film Festival, Grand Prix at Vevey International Funny Film Festival, the Press Award at Morbido Film Festival and Audience Awards at Imagine Film Festival, Panic Fest, Brussels International Film Festival and Lees Film Festival. The synopsis: “While shooting a low-budget zombie film in an abandoned warehouse, the crew find themselves caught between actual zombies and a mad director who won’t stop rolling. If you think you know what happens next, think again.” That’s all you really need to know, so don’t miss this one; advance tickets can be purchased at the official website.
