Over 30 years after portraying a wannabe bloodsucker in VAMPIRE’S KISS (pictured), the actor will now be playing the real thing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nicolas Cage has signed on to play Count Dracula in RENFIELD, Universal’s latest revision of its classic monster library. In this version, which (like Universal’s 2020 INVISIBLE MAN reboot) will likely take place in the present day, Dracula’s vermin-eating henchman is the central character, and the movie will be an origin story. Nicholas Hoult (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD) will play Renfield, and Chris McKay (THE TOMORROW WAR) will direct the film from a script by Ryan Ridley, based on an original story outline by THE WALKING DEAD creator Robert Kirkman.
