The director of the acclaimed THE BLACKCOAT’S DAUGHTER is now adding a horrific dimension to a classic children’s story, with the young actress who impressed in IT as the lead.
Orion Pictures has announced that Perkins has begun shooting GRETEL AND HANSEL in Dublin, from a script he wrote with Rob Hayes. Automatik Entertainment’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (UPGRADE) and Fred Berger (THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE) are producing the movie, which stars Sophia Lillis (IT’s Beverly Marsh) as Gretel, Sammy Leakey as Hansel, Charles Babalola (BLACK MIRROR) as the Hunter and Alice Krige (SLEEPWALKERS) and Jessica De Gouw as the witches. The synopsis: “A long time ago in a distant fairytale countryside, a young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.”
Also part of the production are director of photography Galo Olivares, production designer Jeremy Reed, costume designer Leonie Prendergast, special effects supervisor Paul Byrne, editor Josh Ethier and makeup and hair team Liz Byrne and Linda Gannon Foster. A release date hasn’t been set yet, but we’re real excited about this one, and will bring you further updates as we hear ’em!
