Rue Morgue #198 Preview: Behind-The-Scenes Photos From “The Vigil”

Tuesday, December 22, 2020 | Exclusives

Coming to the U.S. next month, THE VIGIL is the directorial debut of Keith Thomas and is featured on the cover of Rue Morgue‘s January/February 2021 issue spotlighting contemporary Middle Eastern horror! Executive produced by Blumhouse, THE VIGIL has been acquired by IFC Midnight for a February release in the U.S.

Low on funds and having recently left his insular religious community, Yakov reluctantly accepts an offer from his former rabbi and confidante to take on the responsibility of an overnight “shomer,” fulfilling the Jewish practice of watching over the body of a deceased community member. Shortly after arriving at the recently departed’s dilapidated house to sit the vigil, Yakov begins to realize that something is very, very wrong.

Devilishly effective and steeped in Jewish folklore, THE VIGIL has been hailed by critics worldwide as a “richly atmospheric” supernatural horror film. Check out the exclusive behind-the-scenes photos below, and subscribe to Rue Morgue to read about THE VIGIL, contemporary Middle Eastern horror, and so much more! Rue Morgue #198 is also available in digital format on Android, PC, and Mac.
