A film version of the classic horror-story books with Guillermo del Toro and THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE’s Andre Øvredal behind it? We can’t wait, and now we know when it’s opening and have received the first pic.

CBS Films and Lionsgate have revealed that SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK will hit theaters August 9, 2019, and released the photo seen below of producer del Toro, who also scripted with Daniel Hageman and Kevin Hageman, star Zoe Coletti and director Øvredal. The cast also includes Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn and creature performers Javier Botet ([REC], MAMA, CRIMSON PEAK) and Mark Steger (STRANGER THINGS). The synopsis: “Inspired by one of the most terrifying children’s book series of all time [by Alvin Schwartz], SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.”
