Monday, May 25, 2020 | Releases

Star Ace Toys has covered many horror greats in a short time and they are back to offer two new ferocious collectibles; Kong: Skull Island and the Underworld: Evolution Lycan.

With a new Godzilla vs. Kong film on the horizon, Star Ace Toys offers up many different Kong-esque goods such as Kong 2.0 (Skull Island) limited edition, deluxe version. This 32 cm tall soft vinyl behemoth of a statue is part of Star Ace’s “Superivinly” series line. The protector of Skull Island is posed in an intimidating upright stance, showing off a large open mouth full pearly white chompers and a face full of rage. With hand painted detail, Kong is sculpted with arms out-stretched; it is easy to see all the battle scars across this beast’s hairy chest.

This deluxe version of Kong recreates one of the scenes from the Kong: Skull Island film in which Kong uses a large ship propeller on a chain as a weapon and swings it around to defend against an attacking skullcrawler. The diorama base features pieces of a wrecked, rusted out ship. Priced at $193 USD (plus shipping), Kong will definitely protect your display case from all that intend on putting fingerprints on it.

Another great addition to the Star Ace catalog is the Underworld: Evolution Lycan is of course based off the character from the release in this film series. Standing a whopping 32 cm tall, (and in line with the size of the other Underworld figure releases) this impressive fictional beast comes in two different releases, a standard and deluxe edition release, with the later coming with a designer statue base (the standard comes with a tiny base you hook around one of the Lycan’s feet.) Sculpted in a ready-for-battle pose with mouth wide open showing off a mouthful of sharp large teeth and claws out, ready to fight any vampire it encounters.

The impressive sculpt and paint show off various Lycan features, such as a fit, muscle-filled upper body and a creature like skin tone. The Lycan also features synthetic hair around its head almost acting as a mane. This snarling beast also comes with a broken cuff and chain on one of its arms. Look for the Standard edition to sell for $149 USD and the Deluxe limited edition to sell at $189 USD.

Star Ace Toys has previously released many figures based on the Underworld Saga. These figures include two different versions of Selene, one with light up blue eyes and a standard version. Two versions of Viktor were also release a standard and “limited edition” version that included two interchangeable heads. There is a preorder up right now for Marcus Corvinus who is immortalized here in his hybrid Lycan/Vampire state. This soft vinyl statue standing 32 cm tall is set to be released in the second quarter of 2020.

Final thoughts: Star Ace Toys puts everything into everything they release and the licensed Kong 2.0 and Lycan statues are no exception. Both giant vinyl beasts will be the envy of all that set eyes upon them. Sculpted with meticulous detail, each one are worth the time effort and money to include them in a horror fan’s collection. Star Ace doesn’t disappoint and they are always evolving and acquiring new properties to work with.
