I loved Get Out, but ultimately, it has to be mother! Yes, it has its faults, but it’s such an intensely pure cinematic experience. The kind of film that stays with you a long, long time after you’ve left the cinema. Jennifer Lawrence gives an extremely brave performance and the whole thing is simply dripping with subtext. A truly vital film.
Favorite of 2017. That’s so hard. I’m gonna have to pick more than one. It was a good year for indie flicks. I loved Get Out, Tragedy Girls, Mayhem and Mom and Dad. Most of the big theater releases didn’t thrill me.
Get out was great.
My favorite Horror film this past year was The Autopsy of Jane Doe. The film kept my attention and had me guessing what was going on and not having a clue what was going to happen next. The eerie feeling when it was over is what makes for a good horror movie. My least favorite was Better Watch Out, a movie that was nothing like the trailer suggested and only had me rooting against the little smart aleck kid.
I completely agree with you about Better Watch Out. I’d really been looking forward to this, as I tend to love Christmas horror films. But this just didn’t do it for me at all. Even after watching interviews with the crew and reading some analysis of the film, I still don’t think it really achieves what it set out to. Hope to get to Autopsy of Jane Doe soon…
