Director Gaspar Noé (I STAND ALONE, IRREVERSIBLE, ENTER THE VOID) brings another cinematic provocation to the screen with CLIMAX, currently freaking out festival audiences. A new trailer has been released by U.S. distributor A24; see it after the jump, along with the poster.

CLIMAX, which next plays the Toronto International Film Festival with a Stateside release date to be announced, stars Sofia Boutella (THE MUMMY, ATOMIC BLONDE) and a cast of professional dancers. The synopsis: “A troupe of young dancers gathers in a remote and empty school building to rehearse. Following an unforgettable opening performance lit by virtuoso cinematographer Benoît Debie and shot by Noé himself, the troupe begins an all-night celebration that turns nightmarish as the dancers discover they’ve been pounding cups of sangria laced with potent LSD. Tracking their journey from jubilation to chaos and full-fledged anarchy, Noé observes crushes, rivalries, and violence amid a collective psychedelic meltdown.” Stay tuned for word of a U.S. date.
